Ambiente grille and front bumper Illumination with two tone painting lamels Mansory Carbon for Rolls-Royce Dawn

Ambiente Grille + Bumper Illumination, 2-Tone Lamels — Rolls-Royce Dawn (Mansory Carbon)

This is the maximalist statement within the Mansory carbon programme for the Rolls-Royce Dawn — and the flagship of the four-card ambiente matrix. The car gets two synchronised zones of illumination: the Pantheon grille bezel glows from within its carbon frame, and the front bumper carbon trim repeats the gesture along the lower face. Above and below, the same soft-edge light signature meets the night. The signature flourish is the chrome lamels (vertical slats) repainted in a bespoke two-tone scheme — a paint-break worthy of a coachbuilder's workshop, agreed in writing before any pigment is mixed. Specified as part of the wider Mansory Body Kit for Rolls-Royce Dawn, this kit suits owners who want their twin-turbocharged 6.6-litre V12 drophead to announce itself the instant it rolls past the porte-cochère — Spirit of Ecstasy lit from below, Starlight Headliner glowing inside, ambiente light bleeding from the front mask.

Construction & Materials

The kit is two coordinated assemblies, hand-built in the Mansory atelier: the grille ambiente carrier (inside the Pantheon bezel, hosts the upper light bar) and the front bumper ambiente strip (integrated with the lower bumper carbon trim, hosts the lower light bar). Both autoclave-cured prepreg. The painted lamels — vertical slats that form the visible face of the Pantheon grille — are stripped of factory chrome, primed, basecoated and clearcoated with two complementary RR-coachwork colours in a programmed pattern (typically darker at the outer slats, lighter towards the centre, per spec sheet).

  • Carrier and strip in 2×2 twill 3K prepreg, 2×0.6 mm structural plies plus 1×0.3 mm cosmetic outer ply
  • Wall thickness 1.5–1.8 mm at carrier flanges; 1.2 mm along the bumper strip
  • Combined dry weight 1.95–2.20 kg (carrier 0.95–1.05 kg, strip 1.00–1.15 kg, painted lamel set adds 0.40 kg over OEM chrome)
  • Lamels: factory chrome stripped, automotive-grade primer, 2×basecoat in chosen RR colours, 2×2K clearcoat, polished and flatted
  • Two LED light bars, 12 V, ~9 W upper + ~12 W lower, programmed warm-white (~3000 K) by default; cool-white or amber options
  • Optical-grade diffuser lenses behind the painted lamels — light reads as a glow, never a hot spot
  • OEM-style flat connectors with weather seals; sealed JST splice junctions; fused at +5 A
  • Finish: deep-gloss lacquered weave on carbon zones, matched to RR coachwork; satin & semi-gloss on request

Design & Visual Function

The reason a Dawn owner specifies this card — rather than the grille-only ambiente or the plain-lamel variants — is vertical theatre. A single zone at the grille reads as a delicate flourish; a single zone at the bumper reads as a contemporary garnish. Doing both, in sympathy, builds a tall, calm light signature that mirrors the Pantheon grille's own verticality and lengthens the front mask after dark. Spirit of Ecstasy floats above the upper glow; the lower strip catches the kerb and the gravel-driveway lamps; the painted lamels weave the colour story between.

The two-tone painted lamels are the bespoke craft step. Mansory's painters work from your colour brief: the darker accent generally references the lower coachwork or a contrast waistline; the lighter accent picks up the main RR body colour. Programmed correctly, the slats read as a single composite tone in daylight from twenty paces, but reveal the rhythm at conversational distance — and at night, lit from within, the colour break becomes a defining graphic. We coordinate the scheme with hood (soft-top) colour, leather hide and stitching, even with the optional illuminated bonnet pinstripe.

Light tuning is delicate. The default 3000 K warm-white reads as a refined incandescent halo — correct for a coachbuilt drophead. Cool-white (~4500 K) gives a more contemporary edge; amber matches the OEM marker-light feed for full theatrical warmth. Whichever temperature is chosen, upper carrier and lower strip share dimming curve, so the two zones rise and fade as one when the marker lights or DRLs are commanded.

Compatibility & Fitment

Rolls-Royce Dawn 2015–2023, all variants including Black Badge. Drophead convertible only — the Dawn shares many cues with Wraith but the engine bonnet, soft-top mechanism and rear-deck geometry are Dawn-specific, and these parts are not a fit for Wraith, Phantom or Cullinan. The kit retains every OEM function: parking sensors, washer jets, headlight wash where fitted, the optional illuminated bonnet pinstripe, coach-door geometry, fabric-top stowage path and Spirit of Ecstasy retraction. The kit's harness taps cleanly into the OEM marker-light or DRL feed (installer's choice based on owner brief) and respects the original courtesy-light timeout. The painted lamels respect every OEM dimensional tolerance — airflow into the radiator and intercooler is unaffected.

Installation & Reversibility

Plan a workshop day. Mechanically, the carrier and bumper strip are bolt-on items at OEM mount points; access is via removal of the front bumper for the lower strip and access to the grille bezel internals for the carrier. The lamel swap requires careful removal of the OEM chrome slats and refitting of the painted set with new clips and seals (Mansory supplies fresh fasteners). Electrically, allow two hours for the wiring tap-in, fuse-block addition and dual-zone routing — a clean splice into the marker-light or DRL feed, sealed JST junctions, fused at +5 A, harness routed away from any heat source and clear of the soft-top stowage envelope. Total fit time is typically 7–10 hours including ambient cure of any sealants. The kit is fully reversible: OEM chrome lamels reinstall, OEM ambient feed restores, no panels are cut.

Recommended installer: a Rolls-Royce-certified body shop or a Mansory-trained electrician for the splice. The lamel paintwork must be handled by gloved hands during install — the pieces arrive clearcoated and any swirl or microscratch is visible at this finish level.

Pairing within the Mansory Dawn programme

This card is the maximalist of the four-card ambiente matrix — both zones lit, lamels painted. It is worth situating against its three siblings before specifying:

To complete the front mask, this kit pairs naturally with the Pantheon grille carbon surround (which becomes the structural carbon ring around the upper light bar), the front bumper slim DRL for daytime presence to mirror the night-time glow, and the engine bonnet with carbon bar to extend the lacquered-weave story along the bonnet centreline.

Maintenance & Durability

The Dawn is open-top — lacquered carbon and painted lamels both live under direct sun. Wash with neutral pH shampoo and two soft mitts. Avoid alkaline wheel cleaners, ammonia-based glass cleaners, and any abrasive sponge near the lamels or lacquered carbon — alkalinity micro-etches the clearcoat, ammonia clouds it. Dry by air or plush microfibre; never drag a chamois across these surfaces. We strongly recommend a full ceramic coat over both the carbon zones and the painted lamels — a 9H coating bonds for thirty months and offers proper UV defence, the single biggest preservation gain for an open car.

The LED bars are rated north of fifty thousand hours and sealed against splash and dust. With ignition off both zones draw zero current; ambient mode active, the dual-zone draw is below 25 W combined — no battery health implications, even after extended layups. If a single lamel is chipped, that one slat can be removed, refinished in the original two-tone scheme and refitted; you do not commission a new full set. The lower bumper strip is replaceable as a service part without disturbing the upper carrier.

Lead Time & Warranty

Lead time 4–8 weeks from confirmed brief. Painted lamels add a spec week — we agree the two-tone pair, supply chips for sign-off, then commit to the booth. 12-month warranty against manufacturing defects on carbon, lamels and LED hardware.

FAQ

Q: Why specify both zones AND painted lamels — isn't it too much?
A: It is the most assertive of the four matrix options — chosen by owners who want their Dawn to read as a coachbuilt one-off the moment it appears. If you are unsure, the plain-lamel dual-zone reads quieter and the two-tone-grille-only sits between the two. We are happy to mock-up either before commitment.

Q: Does the wiring affect the OEM warranty on electrical systems?
A: We splice cleanly into the marker-light or DRL feed at a serviceable junction. The kit is fully reversible — OEM connectors restore in minutes — and we provide an installation log in case the OEM dealership requests it.

Q: Is the kit Black Badge-compatible?
A: Yes, fully — both Standard and Black Badge Dawns share the same Pantheon grille bezel and front bumper geometry. The Black Badge's darker chrome differs from Standard chrome — we coordinate the painted-lamel two-tone with whichever chrome family surrounds the grille so the trim transitions stay coherent.

Q: Can the two-tone scheme reference my interior leather rather than the body colour?
A: Yes — we have completed schemes referencing the contrast piping or the dashboard hide. We will mix to a leather sample on request, with paint chips supplied for confirmation before the booth.

Q: With the soft top down, is anything visible at the rear?
A: No — this is a front-mask card. The fabric soft top stows fully behind the second row regardless of the front-mask spec. There is no clearance interaction.

Q: Will the dual-zone glow show up in the daytime?
A: It is calibrated for dusk-to-night theatre. In bright daylight the glow is subtle — the painted lamels and the lacquered carbon do most of the visual work. From late golden hour onwards the kit shows its full character.

Q: Can I retrofit this if my car already has the plain dual-zone ambiente kit?
A: Yes — we supply the painted lamel set as a service item and the carbon zones carry over. This is a common upgrade path for owners who specified the matrix conservatively and now want the maximalist version.
