Front grill frame Mansory Carbon for Rolls-Royce Dawn

Front Grill Frame — Mansory Carbon for Rolls-Royce Dawn

The Front Grill Frame is the keystone of the Mansory carbon programme on the Dawn — the bespoke surround that wraps the Pantheon grille and re-frames the entire face of the drophead. It does not touch the vertical chrome lamels themselves; instead it draws a hand-laid carbon border around them, sharpening the upright slats, lifting the Spirit of Ecstasy on her plinth and re-tuning the proportions of the bonnet shutline. Within the wider Mansory Body Kit for Rolls-Royce Dawn, this is the part owners specify when they want presence at the kerb without losing a single Rolls-Royce coachbuilding cue — the soft-top theatre, the coach doors, the twin-turbocharged 6.6 V12 hush behind the badge. It is, quietly, the piece that tells the rest of the kit what tone to take.

Construction & Materials

The frame is moulded as a single bonded carbon component shaped to the Pantheon aperture, with internal radii machined to clear the OEM grille seal, the bonnet pinstripe channel and the mascot retraction housing. Mansory laminates each shell from aerospace-grade prepreg over a CNC-milled positive, then post-cures it under autoclave pressure so the weave reads dead-flat under low-angle drophead light. The visible face is finished in deep-gloss UV-stable lacquer, colour-matched to the deck of the Dawn so the carbon and the coachwork share the same depth of reflection rather than fighting one another.

  • Weave: 3K twill on the visible face, 2K plain on the inner blind edge near the mascot housing
  • Cure: autoclave-cured prepreg over CNC-milled tooling
  • Wall thickness: 1.6 to 2.1 mm depending on the radius around the chrome lamel surround
  • Component mass: approximately 0.9 kg as a finished, lacquered assembly
  • Finish: high-build UV-stable clear lacquer, optional satin or matte on request
  • Mounting: bonded over the OEM grille frame using Mansory urethane plus four hidden mechanical clips
  • Hardware: stainless concealed clips, tape primer pre-applied at factory
  • Edge detail: hand-finished bevel that meets the chrome lamel base without crowding the slat root

Design & Visual Function

The Pantheon grille is the most quoted element on any modern Rolls-Royce. Mansory's carbon surround treats it with the deference it deserves. The weave runs vertically across the upper bar so the twill grain echoes the chrome lamels rather than competing with them; at the corners the cloth turns through tight radii without breaking the visual line, which is harder than it looks and is the reason Mansory cures the part in autoclave rather than vacuum-bag. The result is a frame that, from three metres, reads as a deeper, sharper version of the OEM aperture — and from one metre rewards the closer look with the prepreg twill itself.

The surround also re-balances the bonnet. Dawn's long, low forward deck wants a strong horizontal cap, and the carbon top edge of the frame supplies exactly that, drawing the eye across to the Spirit of Ecstasy without crowding her. Owners who specify the lacquered Mansory Engine Bonnet with Bar — Mansory Carbon for Rolls-Royce Dawn generally pair it with this frame so the carbon arch on the bonnet meets a carbon arch on the grille — a single coachbuilt gesture rather than two parts speaking past each other.

This is also a part that behaves differently with light. At noon, under direct overhead sun, the deep-gloss lacquer reads as a black mirror and the chrome lamels do all the talking. At twilight, on the move along an embankment with low side-light, the weave starts to show its 3K grain and the surround becomes the dominant frame on the car. After dark, with the bonnet pinstripe lit and the optional ambiente illumination siblings active, the carbon turns into the picture frame around a glowing Pantheon — which is the theatre most owners commission this part for.

Compatibility & Fitment

Designed for the Rolls-Royce Dawn, model years 2015 through 2023, drophead convertible only, including Standard and Black Badge. The frame uses the OEM grille seal and respects the geometry of the illuminated bonnet pinstripe pathway; the mascot retraction housing, parking sensors, washer jet routing, radar aperture for adaptive cruise and the camera plate are all unaffected. The part is not interchangeable with the Wraith or the Ghost — those cars share family cues with the Dawn but the Pantheon aperture proportions, bonnet shutline and pinstripe channel are Dawn-specific, and the surround is laid up to those dimensions. Coach-door geometry is unrelated to the frame and remains entirely OEM.

Installation & Reversibility

Allow ninety minutes to two hours bench time at a Rolls-Royce-aware body shop. The grille assembly comes forward at the OEM clips, the carbon frame is dry-fitted around the chrome lamel pack, the mascot housing and pinstripe channel are confirmed clear, and only then is bonding adhesive laid. Mansory ships the frame with primer pre-applied to the bond face and with a paper template that confirms the four hidden clip positions. Reversibility is straightforward: a thin nylon line under the bond, gentle heat, and the OEM grille frame returns to factory condition with no panel cuts, no drilled holes and no harness changes. We recommend a Mansory-trained installer; the part itself is not difficult, but a Pantheon grille mis-aligned by two millimetres on a Dawn is visible from the other side of the street.

Pairing within the Mansory Dawn programme

The Front Grill Frame is the structural anchor for the ambiente illumination family. Two natural matches: the Ambiente Grille Illumination — Mansory Carbon for Rolls-Royce Dawn, which lights the Pantheon aperture itself, and the more theatrical Ambiente Grille Illumination with Two-Tone Painting Lamels — Mansory Carbon for Rolls-Royce Dawn, where the chrome slats are over-coated in a coachbuilt two-tone scheme and lit from behind. The frame is the carbon picture-rail that both depend on; specifying the illumination without the frame is possible, but the lit aperture sits inside an unframed border and loses about half of its presence. For a fully resolved bonnet line, add the lacquered Engine Bonnet with Bar — Mansory Carbon for Rolls-Royce Dawn so the carbon language travels from the grille up over the bonnet without interruption.

Maintenance & Durability

Lacquered carbon on an open-top car asks for slightly more attention than carbon on a fixed-roof grand tourer, because the surround sits in direct sun whenever the soft-top is stowed. The drill is gentle: pH-neutral shampoo, a soft chenille mitt, two-bucket method, no traffic-film remover near the lacquer, and absolutely nothing alkaline or ammonia-based. A modern ceramic coating rated for clear-over-carbon adds two to three years of UV protection and drops the wash effort considerably; a traditional carnauba is fine but wants refreshing every three or four months. Avoid pressure washing the bond edge at close range. If a corner is kerbed, Mansory's repair workflow re-laminates the affected radius and re-shoots the lacquer panel-wide — the part is repaired, not replaced, and the join is invisible at handover.

Lead Time & Warranty

Lead time runs four to eight weeks from order confirmation, in line with Mansory's bespoke production cadence; if the car is also having paintwork commissioned, we slot the lacquer batch to match. Twelve-month warranty against manufacturing defects on the laminate, the bond hardware and the lacquer finish, calculated from delivery date.

FAQ

Q: Does the frame change anything about the Pantheon chrome lamels themselves?
A: No. The chrome vertical slats remain OEM and untouched. The frame surrounds them; it is not a replacement grille. If you want the lamels themselves restyled, that is a separate ambiente-illumination two-tone option.

Q: Is this part the same on a Dawn Black Badge?
A: Yes. The Pantheon aperture geometry is identical across Standard and Black Badge Dawns, so a single frame fits both. We confirm chassis details on order.

Q: Will it sit happily next to the illuminated bonnet pinstripe?
A: Yes — the frame is shaped around the pinstripe pathway and does not interrupt the LED channel or the diffuser strip above the grille.

Q: Can the frame be specified in raw weave instead of lacquer?
A: Lacquered deep-gloss is the default because it lives on an open-top car. Satin and matte lacquer are available; fully raw, unsealed weave is not recommended for a sun-exposed surround and we do not ship it that way.

Q: Does it fit a Wraith?
A: No. Wraith and Dawn share family cues but the Pantheon aperture proportions and the bonnet shutline are different enough that this frame is Dawn-only.

Q: How does soft-top stowage interact with the frame?
A: Not at all. The frame sits forward of the windscreen header rail; the cashmere-blend hood folds and stows on its OEM path with no clearance changes whatsoever.

Pair the Front Grill Frame with at least one ambiente illumination sibling and the lacquered engine bonnet to land the full coachbuilt theatre Mansory designed it for. To brief, configure or place an order, message WhatsApp +44 7488 818 747 or write to [email protected].
