Side lip Mansory Carbon for Mercedes-Benz AMG GT S Coupe

Mansory Carbon Side Lip for Mercedes-AMG GT S Coupe (C190)

The Mansory carbon side lip for the Mercedes-AMG GT (C190) is the smallest, sharpest piece of the C190 flank language — a thin lip blade that runs along the lower edge of the side skirt, tucking the visual mass of this long-bonnet front-mid-engine GT another notch closer to the asphalt. Unlike the full side-skirts panel that replaces the OEM rocker, the side lip is an accent strip — bonded to the bottom edge of the rocker (factory or Mansory carbon), giving the AMG GT S coupé silhouette the slammed, GT3-adjacent stance owners want without committing to a full panel swap. It belongs to the Mansory Carbon Fiber Body kit set for Mercedes-Benz AMG GT S Coupe programme — engineered around the M178 4.0L V8 BiTurbo with its hot-V architecture, the rear-mounted 7-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT transaxle, and the wide-haunch coupé proportions that make the C190 such a focused road-and-track car.

Construction & Materials

Layup is autoclave-cured 3K twill prepreg, with a tighter satin weave option for buyers who prefer a calmer surface read against gloss black or designo paint. The lip is laid up over a CNC-machined master to keep the leading edge knife-thin and the rear taper clean — Mansory does not run a chunky bead at either end; the blade fades into the skirt line so the panel reads as one continuous element. Thickness in the structural mid-section sits at roughly 3.0 mm, tapering to about 1.6 mm at the visible bottom edge so the blade catches light without looking bricked.

  • Weave: 3K twill prepreg standard; 2K plain or matte-finish forged-look optional
  • Cure: autoclave under heat and pressure for void-free laminate
  • Wall thickness: ~3.0 mm structural, tapering to ~1.6 mm at the visible lip edge
  • Weight per side: ~0.9 kg (pair ~1.8 kg)
  • Mounting: 3M VHB structural acrylic foam tape with mechanical safety clips at the front and rear ends
  • Finish: deep-gloss UV-stable lacquer standard; satin/matte 2K clear and exposed-weave UV clear available
  • Pre-fit: factory tape masking and pre-drilled clip locations for repeatable install geometry
  • Edge treatment: hand-flatted leading edge, no exposed fibre, sealed with two-pack clear

Design & Visual Function

The C190 was drawn around its long bonnet and rear-set cabin, and the visual centre of gravity sits unusually rearward over the DCT transaxle. A side lip works on that geometry by lowering the apparent rocker line, which in turn lengthens the door cut and pulls the eye along the haunch toward the rear arch. The lip is a small piece, but it is the one that finishes the flank — without it, full side-skirts or a wide-body kit can read top-heavy when the car is parked low. With it, the GT silhouette sits flat to the ground in photographs.

Functionally it is a low-speed flow tidy-up, not a full underbody panel. The lip nudges the boundary layer slightly inboard along the lower flank, which combined with the front-lip splitter and rear diffuser keeps the under-flank flow quieter at the kind of motorway-cruise speeds an AMG GT S actually spends its life at. We do not claim downforce numbers from this single piece — that would be marketing theatre on a 1.6 mm trailing-edge blade — but it does belong to the same coherent aero family as the rest of the C190 Mansory programme.

Visually, the lip is the joint between vertical (the door / rocker face) and horizontal (the underbody plane). Mansory aligns the weave so the twill diagonals run continuous with the side-skirts panel above; if the car is also wearing the full skirts, the two surfaces read as one piece of carbon broken only by a fine reveal line. Against Panamericana-grille-era cars (post-2017 facelift) with the front-grill-mask and front-lip in place, the side lip closes the loop on the lower visual band that wraps the whole car.

Compatibility & Fitment

Fits Mercedes-AMG GT (C190) coupé in GT, GT S, GT C, GT R, GT R Pro and Black Series specification. Roadster fitment is body-line dependent — the rocker geometry on the open-top car is shared with the coupé and the side lip will mount, but installer should confirm the exact rocker profile against the panel before bonding. The lip is designed to mate with both OEM rockers and the Mansory carbon side-skirts; on the OEM rocker the bond line sits flush against the lower painted edge, and on the Mansory skirt it tucks under a pre-cast lip that hides the join entirely.

The side lip is not compatible with the 4-door AMG GT 63 (X290) — that car is a separate platform with completely different rocker geometry, doors, and wheelbase. This part is C190 two-door only. Pre-facelift Diamond-grille cars (2014–2017) and post-2017 Panamericana-facelift cars share the same rocker line, so the side lip is grille-agnostic — owners running pre-facelift cars can fit it without grille-mask compatibility caveats. OEM parking sensors, factory ride height, AMG headlight washers, OEM exhaust note and (on GT R) the AIRPANEL active underbody aero are all retained — the lip lives well outboard of the AIRPANEL flap zone.

Installation & Reversibility

Total time per side: 45–60 minutes of bench work plus a 24-hour cure. The installer cleans the rocker bond face with isopropanol, primes with 3M tape primer, dry-fits the lip against the pre-drilled clip locations, marks the tape line, peels and presses with a hard plastic roller for 60 seconds along the full length. The mechanical clips at front and rear take the live load until the VHB tape reaches full bond strength. Two people make the install easier — one to hold the blade aligned to the skirt rocker line, one to roll the tape.

The job is fully reversible. Removal uses a fishing-line pull-through or plastic wedge to break the VHB bond, followed by adhesive remover on the rocker. No paint is cut, no body lines drilled outside of the OEM clip locations the lip already references. We recommend an AMG-certified body shop for first-time fits if the owner is also installing the full Mansory side-skirts in the same session — alignment between the two carbon surfaces is the critical visual check, and getting both panels parallel to the rocker line takes practice. For the side lip alone on OEM rockers, an experienced detailer or carbon installer can complete the job.

Pairing within the Mansory AMG GT programme

The side lip is a connector piece — it makes the most sense when other lower-band carbon is already on the car. Cross-shop with the full Mansory carbon side-skirts for the matching upper rocker panel; with the front-lip to close the lower visual band at the nose; and with the diffuser for OEM rear bumper to finish the lower band at the tail. Specified together, those four parts give the C190 a continuous carbon ribbon that wraps the entire lower silhouette without committing to the full wide-body-kit.

Maintenance & Durability

The side lip lives in the worst zone on the car for stone chips, kerb rash and tar pickup — anything kicked up by the front wheels travels along this exact line. Two practical defences: a layer of self-healing PPF over the leading 200 mm of the blade (where front-wheel spray hits hardest), and a quality ceramic coating over the lacquered weave for chemical resistance. Keep alkaline wheel cleaners and ammonia-based products well away from the lacquer — both will haze 2K clear over time. Carnauba waxes are fine but offer little chip protection; ceramic is the better long-term choice on a piece this exposed.

If a stone chips through to the weave, the repair workflow is straightforward: feather-sand the affected area, fill with a low-shrink clear epoxy, flat-back, and re-clear with the matching 2K. A skilled refinisher will make a chip invisible at arm's length; up close, lacquered carbon repairs always show a faint halo. PPF on day one is cheaper than refinishing in year three. Tar from summer roadworks comes off with citrus-based tar removers and a microfibre — never abrasive sponges, never traffic-film removers stronger than pH 9.

Lead Time & Warranty

Production lead time is 4–8 weeks from order confirmation. Each lip is laid up to order at the Mansory facility, autoclave-cured, finished and quality-checked before despatch. The piece carries a 12-month manufacturing warranty against laminate defects, lacquer delamination and clip-mount failure under normal road use. The warranty does not cover stone-chip damage, kerb rash, or finish degradation from inappropriate cleaning chemistry — the maintenance section above explains why those exclusions matter on a piece this close to the road.

FAQ

Q: What is the difference between the side lip and the side-skirts?
A: The side-skirts replace the entire OEM rocker panel — a large carbon part. The side lip is a thin blade that sits along the lower edge of the skirt (OEM or Mansory) as an accent. You can fit the side lip alone for a subtle drop, or pair it with the full skirts for a deeper, layered look.

Q: Will it fit my GT R Pro and Black Series, or only the GT S coupé?
A: The rocker geometry is shared across GT, GT S, GT C, GT R, GT R Pro and Black Series two-door cars. The lip fits all of them. The Black Series carbon-flared arches do not change the rocker line where the lip bonds.

Q: Is the lip safe over the GT R AIRPANEL active underbody aero?
A: Yes — the AIRPANEL flaps sit centrally on the underbody, well inboard of the rocker line. The side lip mounts to the lower outer rocker face and clears the AIRPANEL operating zone entirely.

Q: Pre-facelift Diamond grille car or post-2017 Panamericana — does it matter?
A: For the side lip, no. The rocker line did not change at facelift; the lip fits both. Grille compatibility only matters for the front-grill-mask family of parts.

Q: Can I install it myself?
A: An experienced DIY-er with VHB tape experience can fit it on OEM rockers in an afternoon. If you are also fitting the full carbon side-skirts at the same time, get an AMG-certified body shop to set the alignment.

Q: How does it survive winter and salt?
A: With ceramic coating and PPF on the leading edge, well. Without protection, lacquered carbon at this height of the car will haze within two seasons of salted-road use. PPF the first 200 mm.
