Mansory Front Lip with Middle Splitters and Number-Plate Holder for Mercedes-AMG S63E

The Mansory front lip is the central undertray element that ties the outer splitter wings into a single load-bearing surface across the W223 AMG fascia. It carries two middle splitter blades — narrow vertical fences that protrude downward and forward of the lip plane — and a moulded number-plate cradle that consolidates the OEM plate hardware into the carbon surface rather than letting it punch a hole through the AMG grille. On a 2,510 kg long-wheelbase saloon running an 802 hp / 1430 Nm AMG V8 PHEV powertrain, MCT 9-speed, and 4MATIC+ AWD, the lip is the surface that decides how much of the front-axle airflow gets to the AMG biturbo charge-coolers and HV-battery low-temp radiator versus how much spills around the bumper and wastes itself in the wheel-well. Specify it together with the rest of the parent Mansory Carbon Fiber Body kit set for Mercedes-AMG S63E.

Construction & Materials

The lip is a sandwich layup: a high-modulus inner mat with bias plies for impact response, surfaced by a cosmetic 2×2 twill A-side. The middle splitter blades are co-cured into the same shell rather than bonded as separate fences, which means there is no glue-line stress riser at the root.

  • 3K 2×2 twill outer surface (forged-look and 2K plain weave to order)
  • Vacuum-bag autoclave cure, 125–135 °C, multi-axial fibre orientation in the blade roots
  • Wall thickness 2.6 mm at blade tips, 4.8 mm at the central plate-holder cradle
  • Net dry weight 2.2–2.6 kg including the integrated plate cradle
  • OEM AMG bolt pattern preserved; M6 stainless studs with rubber-isolating washers
  • 3M VHB 5952 along the upper return for non-bolted contact zones
  • UV-resistant 2K clear lacquer (gloss / satin / matte) over hydrophobic primer
  • Substrate prep: solvent wipe, 3M Cleaner-Primer 94 on bond pads, low-tack masking

Design & Visual Function

Where the leading splitter sets the stagnation line, the front lip with its two middle blades does the work of dividing the central airstream and pushing tributary flow away from the number-plate cavity, which on a stock W223 acts as a parasitic open-cup at speed. The blades shed counter-rotating vortices that meet under the floor, smoothing the boundary layer before it reaches the front-axle subframe. On a saloon as heavy as the S63E this matters at sustained high-speed cruise — the front-axle lift coefficient drops and the air arriving at the AIRMATIC's front struts is steadier, which is felt as a calmer steering feel above 200 km/h rather than as a measurable downforce number.

The plate holder is a moulded cradle that fits the European 520×110 plate or the slimmer 520×140 layout; an interior shelf accepts an alternate plate format with two-bolt or four-bolt fixing. Because the cradle is co-moulded rather than glued, the carbon weave runs continuous across the visible face, which keeps the centre of the bumper from looking interrupted in three-quarter photography.

Visually the lip drops the apparent height of the bumper by about 22–28 mm and pulls the central mass downward — a deliberate counter to the long-wheelbase saloon proportion. The 2×2 twill is biased so the diagonals run with the OEM AMG vertical-bar grille, giving the carbon a kinetic thrust outward from the centre even when the car is stationary.

Compatibility & Fitment

Engineered for Mercedes-AMG S 63 E PERFORMANCE (W223) saloon, model years 2023+. The OEM AMG fascia and AMG vertical-bar grille are the visual datums; the AMG three-pointed star and Active Multibeam LED arrays are not disturbed. Cars optioned with AMG Night Package or AMG Carbon Package are fully supported. The lip is height-neutral relative to factory AIRMATIC ride heights but extends roughly 18 mm below the OEM lower fascia line, so vehicles set permanently to AIRMATIC's lowest fixed-height mode or carrying aftermarket lowering kits should verify ramp-clearance angles before final bonding. The plate cradle accepts both two-bolt and four-bolt OEM mounting patterns and is electrically transparent — the OEM plate-illumination loom is not affected.

Installation & Reversibility

Plan 75–110 minutes on a hoist with one technician and a helper to hold alignment while studs are mated. Required tools: 8/10/13 mm sockets, plastic trim picks, isopropyl alcohol, 3M Primer 94, low-tack masking tape, torque wrench (8 Nm on M6 studs). The OEM AMG bumper does not need to come off — installation is from below using existing M6 threaded points along the lower fascia, with 3M VHB 5952 along the upper return. The plate is transferred from the OEM bracket to the carbon cradle using stainless self-tappers supplied; if the cradle is later removed, the plate hardware returns to the OEM mount without remediation. Reversibility is good: bolts are reusable, VHB releases cleanly with localised heat (200–250 °C heat gun) and dental floss, and the underlying paint stays intact provided adhesion-promoter rather than wax was used at install.

Pairing within the Mansory Mercedes-AMG S63E programme

The lip pairs naturally with the Front splitter with LED DRL directly above and the Side skirts lip running rearward to keep the underbody pressure zone continuous. Cars going for the full aero brief usually add the Diffuser and the Air outtake splitter for rear bumper to release the air with minimum wake disturbance.

Maintenance & Durability

The lip's middle blades are exposed to kerb scrape and parking-bumper-ramp rash. Treat them as the most chip-prone part of the kit. Wash with two-bucket method and a pH-neutral shampoo — alkaline pre-wash chemicals dwelling longer than 60 seconds will progressively haze the lacquer. Avoid high-pressure jets directly at the carbon-paint shut-line above the upper return; water forced under the VHB seam will eventually creep the bond. Wax routine: a soft carnauba twice a year for warmth, or a spray ceramic every wash for a hard-shelf gloss. Any chip deeper than the lacquer should be sealed with a clear UV epoxy within seven days to stop wicking under the clear. Plate-cradle bolts should be checked for torque every six months; thread-locking compound is not recommended on stainless-into-carbon as it can scavenge the fibre matrix. Expected lifespan of the cosmetic finish is 8–12 years if garaged.

Lead Time & Warranty

Lead time is 2–4 weeks from order confirmation, faster than the LED-equipped splitter because there is no electrical sub-assembly. Custom finishes (matte, satin, forged-look) add roughly one week. Warranty: 12 months against manufacturing defects — delamination, voids, fitment shortfalls, clear blistering — counted from delivery. Damage from kerb impact or stone chip propagation is not covered. The plate-cradle inserts and stainless studs are individually bagged and packed inside the lip's protective foam shell; the shipping carton is double-walled and stiffened with corner braces specifically because the central blades are the most fragile points in transit. Each lip is photographed under raking light before it leaves the production line, and the photographs travel with the QC sheet so any minor weave variance is documented before delivery.

FAQ

Q: Will the plate cradle accept a square US-format plate?
A: The cradle's secondary fixing pattern accepts a 305×152 or 305×178 plate using the two outer bolt holes. Owners running display-only or temporary plates can also use the central cradle shelf without bolts. The cradle's recessed shelf depth is 9 mm so a low-profile frame still seats flush against the carbon face without proud bolt heads.

Q: Does the lip clash with the AMG Active Multibeam LED beam pattern?
A: No. The lip sits well below the lighting array and does not enter the projection cone for low or high beam.

Q: What is the AMG Carbon Package interaction?
A: AMG Carbon Package fascia inserts remain in place. The Mansory lip is a separate cantilevered element using its own attachment points, so no AMG carbon is removed.

Q: Do the middle splitter blades change ride height or affect AIRMATIC sensors?
A: No. The blades hang below the bumper line but do not contact the front strut or the AIRMATIC ride-height sensors, which are mounted inboard.

Q: Can the plate-cradle be retro-removed if I revert to OEM?
A: Yes — the cradle is part of the lip moulding, so removing the lip returns the plate to OEM mounts without any modification of the underlying bumper. No drilling is performed on the OEM fascia at install, which is why the reversal is non-invasive.

Q: Does the lip make any difference to AMG MCT 9-speed or HV-battery thermal cycles?
A: Indirectly. By steadying the airstream that enters the front charge-cooler stack the AMG biturbo V8 sees a marginally more uniform intake-air temperature at sustained high-speed cruise, which keeps the MCT cooler load consistent. The HV-battery low-temperature radiator benefits in the same way at long-haul speeds.
