Peugeot's Electric e-2008 SUV Boosts Range and Power with Latest Updates

Peugeot has given its smallest SUV, the 2008, a refresh that includes updates to the styling and powertrain. The French automaker has improved the electric e-2008 version, giving it more power and range. The e-2008 now comes with a 54 kWh battery pack, which is 4 kWh larger than the previous version, and an 18% increase in power output, which now stands at 154 bhp. The company claims the electric SUV can travel up to 252 miles on a single charge, a significant increase from the original version's 214 miles.

The e-2008 can be charged using a standard 7.4 kW onboard charger that can take the battery from 0-80% in seven and a half hours with a home wallbox. However, an optional three-phase 11 kW charger is available, reducing the charging time. For DC rapid charging, the e-2008 can charge at a maximum rate of 100 kW, taking the battery from 0-80% capacity in as little as 30 minutes.

In terms of design, the new 2008 gets a fresh front end, featuring a wider grille with Peugeot's new shield badge in the center. The company has also updated the rear with a new three-claw light signature and revised alloy wheel designs ranging from 16 to 18 inches. New paint options, including a black bi-tone roof for GT models, are also available.

The cabin of the new Peugeot 2008 has been updated with the latest technology, including a new 10-inch digital driver's display with 3D instruments in top-spec GT trim. The central infotainment touchscreen is a 10-inch unit with 'piano keys' for shortcut access to important settings. The new system includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while 'OK Peugeot' voice control is also included. The Peugeot i-Connect Advanced option adds TomTom navigation with over-the-air updates and connected services.

In addition to the electric powertrain, the new 2008 also comes with new mild-hybrid technology in the form of a new PureTech 136 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol engine. This engine comes with a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox and a 48-volt electrical system that offers a power boost at low engine speeds. Peugeot claims that the 2008 with its mild hybrid system can run up to 50% of the time in electric mode, offering fuel savings of up to 15%.

Peugeot has also introduced more functionality for its MyPeugeot smartphone app, which includes a virtual maintenance book and the ability to send journey directions to the car's navigation system. For e-2008 owners, the app now shows how much predicted charge they'll have left when they arrive at their destination.

Prices for the updated Peugeot 2008 and e-2008 have yet to be announced, but customers will be able to place orders for the new model from the summer with a choice of three trim levels: Active, Allure, and GT. With these updates, Peugeot hopes to continue the 2008's popularity with buyers, with nearly 700,000 produced since its introduction in 2019.
