Side Skirts — Mansory Carbon for Rolls-Royce Dawn

The Mansory carbon side skirts for the Rolls-Royce Dawn are the longest single carbon panels on the car — bespoke sill trims that travel from the trailing edge of the front fender to the leading edge of the rear haunch, gently rolling the visual mass of the drophead closer to the road. Specified as part of the wider Mansory Body Kit for Rolls-Royce Dawn, they reframe the side profile of a 5.29-metre, two-and-a-half-tonne open-top Rolls-Royce so that the soft-top arch, the coach doors and the Spirit of Ecstasy all read as one continuous gesture. Owners specify them when they want presence without theatrics — a coachbuilt lowering of the line, not a motorsport flourish — and when the twin-turbo 6.6-litre V12 underbody finally deserves a body that matches its hush.

Construction & Materials

Each skirt is a single-piece carbon laminate produced in Mansory’s German atelier on dedicated Dawn tooling. The geometry is unique to the drophead: the sill swage line, the door-bottom seal channel and the lower body radius are different to Wraith, so these panels are tooled specifically for this car. Layup combines a structural inner with a cosmetic outer, vacuum-bagged onto an autoclave-cured epoxy substrate, then finished with deep-gloss UV-stable lacquer matched in tone to the bespoke Rolls-Royce coachwork.

  • Outer cosmetic skin: 3K twill carbon, 245 g/m², weave aligned to the Pantheon-grille verticals when read in profile.
  • Inner structural plies: bi-axial carbon with a thin glass interface ply to manage galvanic isolation against the OEM steel sill.
  • Cure: autoclave epoxy prepreg at 120°C, vacuum-bagged with internal mandrels to keep the long span dimensionally stable.
  • Wall thickness: 2.4–2.8 mm across the visible face, locally ramped to 4.0 mm at the mounting bosses.
  • Weight per side: ~3.2 kg painted, including bonded steel inserts at the OEM clip locations.
  • Hardware: stainless A4 fasteners, factory-pattern plastic clips renewed per side, butyl rope seal at the door-bottom interface.
  • Finish options: deep-gloss lacquer (signature Mansory), satin lacquer, or full body-colour paint with a discreet weave-edge break at the lower step.
  • Edge detailing: laser-trimmed and hand-flame-polished so the lower lip reads as a single uninterrupted line beneath the doors.

Design & Visual Function

The Dawn’s side profile is dominated by two long horizontals: the cant rail of the fabric soft top and the deep, almost ship-like flank below the door. Stock, the lower flank reads as a single uninterrupted slab of paint. The Mansory carbon skirt introduces a second, lower edge — a carbon line that picks up the chrome of the lower window surround and walks it backwards along the underside of the car. The eye reads the silhouette as lower and longer, and the wheels appear better filled.

If you specify a paint break — body colour above, exposed weave below — the verticality of the 3K twill is deliberately aligned to the Pantheon grille. Stand at the front three-quarter and the grille bars, the painted lamels of any ambiente illumination, and the weave on the skirts all march in the same direction. It is a quiet detail, but it is the kind of detail an owner who specifies a Mansory Dawn will notice every time they walk to the car.

For owners who prefer the panels disappear into the coachwork, full body-colour paint with a hairline weave reveal at the lower lip is the more discreet route. The skirt is then read as a sculpted lowering of the existing flank rather than as a contrasting addition. Both are valid — the former is theatre, the latter is whisper. Neither breaks the waftable, drophead grace of the car.

Compatibility & Fitment

Rolls-Royce Dawn (2015–2023, all variants including Black Badge). Drophead convertible only. The skirts retain OEM Rolls-Royce parking sensors, the door-bottom rubber seal geometry, the coach-door swing arc and the fabric-top stowage path. Lower jacking points are preserved via a discreet cut-out in the inner laminate. Although the Dawn shares many cues with the Wraith, the door-bottom seal channel, sill length and rear haunch transition are Dawn-specific — these panels are not a fit for Wraith. They are also not designed for any earlier Rolls-Royce platform.

Installation & Reversibility

Budget 4–6 hours per side at a Rolls-Royce-certified body shop or a Mansory-trained installer. The OEM plastic sill cover is unclipped (its retaining clips are renewed, not reused), the body is degreased and a primer flash is applied to the steel mounting flange. The carbon skirt is offered up dry, shimmed for door-bottom seal compression, then bonded with structural adhesive at the bonded inserts and mechanically fastened at the OEM clip points. Final adjustment is done with the coach door fully open and again with the soft top in mid-cycle, so that no panel ever loads against the door seal or the top mechanism. Reversibility is full: the OEM sill cover and clips can be reinstalled at any time without bodywork. We recommend professional installation for these panels — the long span and the coach-door clearance check are not a driveway job.

Pairing within the Mansory Dawn programme

Side skirts are a foundation panel — they tie the front and rear together. The most natural pairing is the dedicated trim for side skirts, which adds a sharper lower lip and a horizontal carbon shadow at the very bottom of the panel; together they read as a two-stage step rather than a single curve. Forward of the door, the Mansory carbon front fenders continue the same weave language up over the wheel arch and into the bonnet shutline, so that the side of the car becomes one continuous carbon gesture from A-pillar to rear haunch. At the very nose, the Front Lip III is the more assertive of the two front-lip options and visually balances the lowered flank if you have specified the skirts in exposed weave; for a more restrained nose, the Front Lip II is a softer match.

Maintenance & Durability

Lacquered carbon on a drophead lives a hard life: the soft top is down, the sun is overhead and the lower flank collects road film, brake dust and stone-chip stipple. Hand-wash with a pH-neutral shampoo and two-bucket method, dry with a deep-pile microfibre, and inspect the lower lip for stone strikes after every long run. A high-quality ceramic coating is the right choice on lacquered carbon — carnauba is fine but needs more frequent reapplication, and on a sunlit drophead the UV stability of a ceramic layer is the more sensible long-term answer. Avoid alkaline wheel cleaners on the lower edge of the skirt; ammonia-based glass products and abrasive sponges will dull the lacquer faster than anything else. If the lower lip chips down to the weave, the panel is repairable: a Mansory-trained finisher can re-laminate the affected area, re-lacquer it and blend the repair so it disappears into the surrounding panel.

Lead Time & Warranty

Lead time is 4–8 weeks from order confirmation, in line with Mansory bespoke production. Each pair is built to the specified finish and, where applicable, paint code. A 12-month warranty against manufacturing defects applies; this covers laminate integrity and lacquer adhesion under normal use, and excludes accident damage, stone-chip wear and any modification of the panel after delivery.

FAQ

Q: Will these skirts fit a Rolls-Royce Wraith?
A: No. The Wraith and Dawn share many visual cues but the door-bottom seal channel, sill length and rear haunch transition are different. These panels are tooled specifically for the Dawn drophead.

Q: Do the skirts foul the coach doors at full swing?
A: No. The skirt geometry sits below and outboard of the door-bottom seal, and final fitment includes a clearance check with the door fully open and with the soft top in mid-cycle. Both clearances are retained.

Q: How much weight is added to the car?
A: Roughly 6–7 kg for the pair, painted, including bonded inserts. The OEM plastic sill cover is removed during installation, so the net mass added is smaller than the panel weight suggests.

Q: Can I have them painted to my Rolls-Royce coachwork colour?
A: Yes. Full body-colour paint with a hairline weave reveal at the lower lip is the most discreet specification and is matched to your bespoke RR paint code. Deep-gloss lacquered weave and satin lacquer are the other two routes.

Q: Do they affect ground clearance for kerbs and ramps?
A: The lower edge sits within a few millimetres of the OEM sill cover line, so day-to-day kerb and ramp behaviour is essentially unchanged. We always recommend a slow, square approach to steep ramps regardless.

Q: Are the OEM parking sensors still active?
A: The skirts do not house parking sensors, and they are mounted below the front and rear sensor planes, so all OEM sensor functions are retained.
