Mansory Mafflers (Performance Exhaust) for Mercedes-AMG S63E

The Mansory performance exhaust system — informally referred to in the kit as the "mafflers" — is the rear-axle muffler set that sits aft of the AMG biturbo V8's catalytic converter block. It replaces the OEM AMG rear cans with a pair of Inconel-bodied mufflers that carry valve-controlled internal flow paths and a freer overall flow profile. The S 63 E PERFORMANCE saloon is built around an AMG biturbo V8 paired with an integrated electric motor and a 13.1 kWh HV battery; total output is 802 hp and 1430 Nm and the AMG quad-tip exhaust geometry is fundamentally about expressing that V8 voice while staying inside OEM cabin-NVH limits at cruise. The Mansory exhaust opens a louder, sharper soundscape — a track-day register that the OEM cans deliberately suppress — without changing the OEM AMG quad-tip outlet appearance. It is a track and off-road part by intent; on-road appropriateness depends on the local jurisdiction, and owners should confirm local rules before public-road use. It is part of the parent Mansory Carbon Fiber Body kit set for Mercedes-AMG S63E.

Construction & Materials

The exhaust runs in a high-temperature zone with sustained heat-cycling. Material choice and weld quality are the pre-conditions for any long-term durability claim.

  • Muffler bodies and connector pipework in Inconel 625 — high-temperature, stress-resistant
  • Continuous TIG welds on all flow-path joints, no clamp connections in the hot stream
  • Valve actuator: vacuum-actuated, OEM AMG-pattern, retains OEM control logic
  • Internal sound-absorption packing: stainless wool with high-temp ceramic mat
  • Hangers: OEM AMG location, isolating rubber bushings preserve cabin NVH at cruise
  • Catalyst-side connectors: OEM-flange, no welding required at the OEM cat block
  • Tip-side connectors: OEM AMG quad-tip flange retained, OEM tips reused
  • Heat-shielding: aluminised stainless wraps around the high-radiance zones

Design & Visual Function

From the outside, with the OEM AMG quad-tip outlets retained, the Mansory exhaust is invisible — the visual register of the saloon's rear is unchanged. The aural register, however, shifts dramatically: at idle the system is louder than OEM but still dignified for a luxury-saloon owner; from 3,000 rpm upward under load the AMG V8 voice is sharper, with cleaner overrun crackle and a more defined firing-order separation than the OEM cans permit. The valve-controlled internal paths follow the OEM AMG sound-mode logic — Comfort, Sport, and Sport+ retain their OEM character while Race / track mode opens the valve fully and lets the V8 sing at its loudest.

The Inconel bodies are a track-grade material choice rather than a cosmetic one, but they have an aural consequence: Inconel rings at a higher pitch than the OEM stainless, which contributes to the sharper firing-order separation at high load. The internal stainless wool and ceramic-mat packing handles the absorption brief — the mufflers are not free-flow open pipes; they are valve-tuned flow paths with deliberate absorption.

For owners who pair the Mansory exhaust with the diffuser-with-race-brake-light variant and the rear-hatch panel with the red illuminated logo, the rear of the car reads as track-oriented at the same time as it sounds track-oriented; the visual and aural register align.

Compatibility & Fitment

Engineered for Mercedes-AMG S 63 E PERFORMANCE (W223), 2023+, saloon. Connects at the OEM AMG catalytic-converter block flange and at the OEM AMG quad-tip flange. The OEM AMG quad-tip outlets are retained — visual register at the rear is unchanged. The OEM vacuum-actuated valve harness retains OEM control logic; the Mansory valve actuator follows OEM AMG signal patterns and integrates with the OEM AMG sound-mode selector. AIRMATIC ride-height sensors are unaffected by the exhaust pipework geometry. AMG Night Package and AMG Carbon Package cars are supported. The HV-battery low-temperature radiator and the AMG biturbo V8's intake-cooler stack live forward of the catalyst block and are unaffected.

Installation & Reversibility

Plan 3–5 hours on a hoist with two technicians. Required tools: Torx and 13/15 mm sockets, OEM-pattern exhaust-flange torque sequence, isopropyl alcohol for sensor-port cleaning, vacuum-line splitter for the valve-actuator harness. Workflow: lift the car, support the OEM exhaust at the rear hangers, release the OEM AMG quad-tip flange and the OEM cat-block flange, swap the OEM rear cans for the Mansory pair, route the valve-actuator vacuum line through the OEM harness clip pattern, re-torque the flanges to OEM specification, transfer the heat-shielding to OEM hangers, return AIRMATIC sensor clearance to OEM. A 24-hour heat-cycle bedding-in period is recommended before sustained track running. Reversibility is full — the OEM rear cans can be reinstalled at any time without modification of the OEM cat block or the OEM quad-tip outlets.

Pairing within the Mansory Mercedes-AMG S63E programme

Most often combined with the Downpipe for an end-to-end exhaust upgrade, with the Exhaust remote control for valve-state control independent of the OEM sound-mode selector, and with the Diffuser with race brake light for a coordinated track-oriented rear-fascia treatment.

Maintenance & Durability

Inconel exhausts are extremely durable but they age in characteristic ways — the visible portion of the connector pipework develops a heat-tinge bloom (gold to blue) over the first 1,000 km of running, which is a normal sign of sustained high-temperature exposure, not a defect. The OEM AMG quad-tip outlets are retained; their internal-cone is exposed to higher gas velocity than under OEM exhaust spec and will collect more soot residue over time — clean monthly with a non-acid exhaust-tip cleaner and a soft brass brush. Inspect the heat-shield wraps annually for any displacement; a slipped wrap can let radiant heat soak the AIRMATIC ride-height sensor, which is the only NVH-relevant component near the exhaust path. The valve actuator should hold OEM-pattern vacuum behaviour for the OEM service interval; replace the actuator preventively at the OEM-recommended exhaust service interval to avoid stuck-valve states.

Lead Time & Warranty

Production turnaround: 5–7 weeks. Inconel bodies are TIG-welded by hand and the valve-actuator integration is bench-tested before the assembly leaves the production line. Custom valve calibration is available on order. Warranty: 12 months against manufacturing defects — Inconel weld integrity, valve-actuator function, OEM-flange dimensional accuracy, hanger-bushing failure — running from delivery date. Outside warranty: thermal damage from sustained track use beyond rated cycle profile, impact damage to the muffler bodies, and OEM-flange damage from incorrect installation torque sequence. Each system ships in a custom plywood crate with internal foam blocks under the muffler bodies and the connector pipework; the QC photograph documents weld continuity and Inconel surface finish.

FAQ

Q: Are the Mansory mufflers street-legal?
A: They are intended for track and off-road use. On-road legality depends on the local jurisdiction; owners should confirm local rules before public-road use.

Q: Will the OEM AMG sound-mode selector continue to work?
A: Yes. The valve actuator retains OEM-pattern vacuum control logic, so the OEM AMG sound-mode selector (Comfort / Sport / Sport+ / Race) continues to do its OEM job. The Mansory soundscape is louder and sharper across all modes but the OEM relative ordering is preserved.

Q: Are the OEM AMG quad-tip outlets retained?
A: Yes — the visual register at the rear is unchanged. Only the muffler bodies aft of the catalyst block are replaced.

Q: Will it trigger an OEM ECU warning or check-engine light?
A: No. The Mansory mufflers preserve OEM-pattern back-pressure within the ECU's tolerance window, and the OEM downstream sensors continue to read OEM-expected values.

Q: Is the system AIRMATIC-clearance compatible?
A: Yes. The pipework geometry preserves OEM AIRMATIC sensor clearance and the heat-shield wraps prevent radiant heat soak on the sensors.

Q: Will it damage the OEM catalytic-converter block?
A: No. The Mansory exhaust connects at the OEM cat-block flange with OEM-pattern torque sequence; no welding or modification of the OEM cat block is performed.

Q: Does the system change exhaust gas temperature at the cat block?
A: Marginally. Slightly freer flow downstream lowers the cat-block exit temperature by a small amount under sustained high-load running; the OEM ECU's thermal management compensates within the OEM tolerance window.

Q: How does the heat-tinge bloom develop on the visible Inconel?
A: The Inconel surface goes through a gold-then-blue colouration over the first 1,000 km as the visible portion of the connector pipework heat-cycles into its sustained-temperature register. This is a sign of normal Inconel ageing, not a defect.
