Engine bonnet emblem Mansory for Mercedes-AMG S63E

Mansory Engine Bonnet Emblem for Mercedes-AMG S63E

Bonnet emblems sit at the highest point of the front clamshell. They are not viewed at the close range that grille badges or rear emblems are; instead they read at distance, glimpsed by the driver in their windscreen during normal driving and by passers-by from across a parking aisle. That changes the design brief — a bonnet emblem needs presence at distance rather than fine surface detail at close range. Mansory's bonnet emblem replaces the OEM AMG bonnet stamping with a carbon-and-metal centre piece dimensioned for that distance-read register: a metal Mansory mark large enough to be visible from twenty paces, on a carbon mat sized to give it framing weight without overpowering the bonnet's centre. On a long-wheelbase W223 saloon — 802 hp / 1430 Nm AMG biturbo V8 PHEV, 2,510 kg curb mass, 4MATIC+ AWD — the bonnet centre is the natural focal point of the front three-quarter view, and a coordinated badge there ties the carbon programme together. It is part of the parent Mansory Carbon Fiber Body kit set for Mercedes-AMG S63E.

Construction & Materials

Distance-read parts have looser surface-detail tolerances than close-range badges, but they have tighter material specs because they are larger and they sit on a panel that flexes (the bonnet) at speed. The bonnet emblem layup uses a stiffer base than the small grille-logo emblem.

  • Cosmetic skin: 3K twill, with 2K plain or forged-look as alternatives
  • Cure schedule: 130 °C autoclave peak, multi-axial fibre map across the carbon mat
  • Show face wall: roughly 1.2–1.6 mm; metal-piece bond zone: 2.4 mm
  • Net dry weight: 0.10–0.16 kg, depending on metal-piece option
  • Metal Mansory mark: CNC-machined anodised aluminium or stainless
  • Bonded to OEM bonnet centre with 3M VHB 5952 over primer-flashed paint
  • 2K UV clear over both surfaces, scratch-resistant topcoat for fingertip handling
  • Inner-side accommodation for OEM acoustic foam strip continuity

Design & Visual Function

The carbon mat is sized so the metal Mansory mark sits proud and centred — viewed from across an aisle the eye picks up the metal first, then the carbon mat as the framing context. Because the bonnet emblem's read-distance is greater than the grille badge's, the metal piece is sized larger and the carbon mat carries more visual weight. The 3K twill is biased so the diagonals point inward toward the metal piece, which is the same kinetic logic used on the grille badge but at a larger scale.

Bonnet flex at speed is a real consideration — the OEM bonnet is an aluminium pressing that breathes under aero load on the autobahn, and a stiff badge bonded to a flexing panel can develop a stress crack along the bond line over years. The Mansory layup solves this with a bond-line damping pattern: the VHB tape wraps the perimeter rather than running across the centre, which lets the bonnet flex without pulling at the badge centre. The result is a badge that survives years of bonnet-flex cycling without bond walk.

For owners who fit the Mansory front bonnet (carbon clamshell), the bonnet emblem can be specified at the same lacquer tone as the bonnet for a coordinated centre-of-bonnet read. For OEM-bonnet cars, the metal piece's anodising tone — matte black, gunmetal, or brushed bronze — is chosen to coordinate with the saloon's body-colour register.

Compatibility & Fitment

Engineered for the Mercedes-AMG S 63 E PERFORMANCE (W223), 2023+, saloon. The bond pad is the OEM AMG bonnet centre-emblem position. AMG Night Package and AMG Carbon Package cars are supported. The badge does not interact with any electrical, lighting, or sensor hardware. The badge fits both the OEM AMG aluminium bonnet and the Mansory front bonnet (carbon clamshell) — when fitted to the carbon bonnet, the layup wraps the bond pad with a finer primer cycle to maintain the carbon's surface continuity. The OEM bonnet's washer-jet nozzles are well outboard of the centre-emblem position and are unaffected by the badge install. The OEM bonnet's safety-catch position and lock-pin geometry are similarly unaffected.

Installation & Reversibility

Allow 10–15 minutes. The technician warms the OEM bonnet centre-emblem with a low-temperature heat pad to release the OEM adhesive, lifts away with a plastic pry tool, cleans the bond pad with isopropyl alcohol, applies 3M Cleaner-Primer 94, masks the surrounding paint, peels the VHB liner on the Mansory badge, and sets it down with a slight rocking motion to break any air-pocket formation. Hand pressure for half a minute completes the install; a 24-hour cure period precedes any pressure-wash exposure. Reversibility is non-destructive: the OEM bonnet is unmodified, and the OEM AMG centre emblem can be reinstated at any time with a fresh emblem-grade adhesive.

Pairing within the Mansory Mercedes-AMG S63E programme

Most often paired with the Front bonnet (carbon clamshell) for a coordinated open-bonnet view, with the Engine cover directly below for an under-hood carbon palette, and with the Logo for grille mask on the front mask for a coordinated front-end emblem programme.

Maintenance & Durability

Bonnet emblems sit in a UV-saturated zone and a stone-strike zone — the front of a saloon at autobahn pace gathers UV all day on a parked car and gravel rash on a hot run. Hand-wash with pH-neutral shampoo and a plush mitt. Bug residue should be removed within hours rather than days; bug acid will etch both the metal anodising and the surrounding lacquer if left to dwell. Stone-strike on the badge is rare given the relatively rearward bonnet position but, if a chip occurs, seal with clear UV epoxy within seven days. Apply a UV ceramic top semi-annually to keep the lacquer's hydrophobic life topped up. The metal piece's fingerprints clean off with a damp microfibre. Cosmetic-finish lifespan: 10–13 years given the part's UV exposure and the high-Tg topcoat. The bonnet-flex bond-line damping pattern is rated for the OEM bonnet's lifetime cycle profile.

Lead Time & Warranty

Production turnaround: 2–3 weeks. The metal sub-assembly takes a week, after which the carbon mat is co-bonded and lacquered. Custom finishes (matte, satin, forged-look) extend by roughly one week. Custom anodising tones add roughly one week. Warranty: 12 months against manufacturing defects — delamination, voids, fitment, bond integrity, anodising adhesion, clear blistering — running from delivery date. Outside warranty: stone-strike, bug-acid etch, abrasive damage, and impact damage. Each badge ships in a small foam-lined box with the QC photograph documenting carbon weave alignment and metal-piece finish under raking light.

FAQ

Q: Does the badge replace the OEM AMG bonnet centre-emblem?
A: Yes. The OEM emblem is removed during installation; the Mansory badge occupies the same bond pad position.

Q: Will it survive bonnet flex at autobahn speed?
A: Yes. The bond-line damping pattern is engineered for the OEM bonnet's flex envelope; bond walk under flex cycling is not a concern over normal lifespans.

Q: Is the badge compatible with both the OEM aluminium bonnet and the Mansory carbon bonnet?
A: Yes. The bond pad geometry is the same on both panels; the install process differs slightly because the carbon bonnet uses a finer primer cycle to maintain surface continuity.

Q: Can the badge be retro-removed if I revert to OEM?
A: Yes — the OEM bonnet is unmodified, and the OEM AMG centre emblem can be reinstated.

Q: What metal options are there?
A: Anodised aluminium (matte black, gunmetal) is the standard supply. Stainless and brushed-bronze options are available on order; both add roughly one week to the build window.

Q: Will the badge affect the bonnet's centre-of-mass or the OEM strut performance?
A: No. The badge weighs 100–160 g, well within the OEM strut envelope and below any centre-of-mass threshold for the bonnet's hinge dynamics.

Q: How does the badge read in a windscreen reflection from the driver's seat?
A: At a glance, the metal Mansory mark is visible as a small reflective accent at the centre of the bonnet — visible at speed in normal daytime conditions and effectively invisible at night. The badge is sized for distance-read rather than for cabin-view dominance.

Q: Can both the OEM AMG centre emblem and the Mansory badge co-exist?
A: No — they share the same bond pad. Owners pick one or the other.

Q: Does the badge survive a full automated drive-through carwash?
A: Yes. The bond perimeter and the metal-piece anodising are formulated to withstand mechanical brush sweep at typical commercial-wash forces. Touchless wash is preferred for any aftermarket carbon, but routine drive-through wash is acceptable.
