Forged aluminium is fundamentally different from cast alloy at the microstructural level. The subsequent T6 heat treatment — solution annealing followed by controlled artificial ageing — locks this grain in a precipitation-hardened state that resists crack initiation far better than cast A356. The result for the DTM is thinner, lighter spokes than any equivalent cast design can safely achieve, with no porosity and no internal voids to become stress concentrators under load.
